Happy 2011 to you all. How is your new year so far?
Although I enjoy the idea of beginning afresh this new year, I must admit that there is one new year’s tradition that I’m not very fond of: Resolutions (I mean, does anyone really even keep them passed January?). However, it seems that a bible passage seems to be coming to me fairly regularly over the past week or so: Hebrews 12:1-3.
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (NASB)
No doubt, these are verses that we all should keep in mind. For several reasons, it seems particularly important for me this new year. So, although it does smack a bit of a new year’s resolution, I’m really looking forward to more actively applying this truth in my life in 2011. To this end, I’m presently myself to my friends and Christian family to be my witness. Please feel free to contact me throughout the coming months and ask how I’m standing up to this verse.
So, what is God speaking to you about for this year?
