At 10:13 AM on Monday, July 16, 2007, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Japan Sea off the western coast of Japan. Most of the heavy damage occurred in the city of Kashiwazaki.

CRASH Japan (, endorsed by JEMA, is mobilizing Christian volunteers/missionaries to share the love of Christ with the city of Kashiwazaki through acts of service. Frequent updates are posted on the CRASH Japan blog site and you can call CRASH for volunteer information at 0428-30-1604.

I will be heading that way Sunday night (7/22)through Wednesday (7/25) to be apart of the relief work. The plan is that Michael Lindner and I will be somehow get to the site partly by train and then joining a volunteer group coming from Tokyo in vans somewhere along the way. The actual travel plan is still up in the air since we are unsure about the logistics.

Please pray that:

  • We can actually get there and be prepared enough to be blessing and not a further burden.
  • Those of us taking part of the clean up effort will be protected from injury and that God would be our strength through our weakness.
  • Those of us working as counselors will be given Godly compassion and gentleness and wisdom when talking with those who are distraught.
  • Most importantly, God will use this relief effort to touch the lives of those there for His Glory.

I will try to post updates of the trip as soon as I can.
